East Jerusalem (2011)

The origin of the diptych "Jerusalem" is in a national memorial volume published in the Hebrew calendar year 5728 under the name 5708 5728. The meaning of the name in the phonetic Hebrew count is "Forget 1967", the year of unification of Jerusalem in the Zionist jargon, and the year in which the Israeli occupation began in the critical jargon characteristic of the political discourse in Israel. The Western Wall was photographed a few moments after the reconstruction of the Mugrabi Gate, which leads to the Temple Mount, and following the deletion of the neighborhood after which it is named. The painting was painted based on the image appearing in the book, and it imagines the book as an eastwards-opening window. Following completion of the act of painting, the painting was scanned using high technique, reprinted in black and white, and multiplied from right to left, as a suggestion for geographic / political and religious understanding of capturing the entire wall - the Western Wall as a historical and religious formal event, which has become the subject of discussion and conflict in contemporary politics, establishing the question of the ascription of Israel to the Jewish people.
